October 2003 PGH-AHU Board Meeting Minutes

Meeting Called to Order: 4:20 PM
Review of September’s Minutes: Chad Ellis not present.
Treasurer’s Report: Kris Pusateri not present.
Membership Report: Tim Schmid reported the Pittsburgh chapter has 87 active members. Ken Herrle will get both Health America and Highmark on a list bill before the next meeting. Several prospective members have made a commitment. Prospecting activity was discussed. (AI) Every board member agreed to work hard to bring in one new member by November 30th, 2003. (AI) Kevin Sweeney would follow up with lapsed members.
Communications Report: The next Benefits Beat will be published in November. Dave Scott indicated that he has a lunch scheduled with Pam Gaynor to discuss media relations.
Legislative Report: Doug recently met with Melissa Hart for 45 minutes to discuss legislative issues. Meetings have also been scheduled with Mike Doyle and Tim Murphy. HUPAC checks have been delivered to Melissa Hart and Mike Doyle, and Tim Murphy’s will be delivered soon. All 5 Western PA congress members have received HUPAC checks.
Program/Education Report: Don Balla discussed the need to determine dates for the upcoming healthcare forum. The theme for the healthcare forum will be “How Can We Help Control Healthcare Costs In Western PA.” The board decided to have the function in February at Station Square. (AI) Each board member was asked to contact industry professionals in order to gauge their interest in participating.
Technology Report: Holly Lyons was not present. However, it was noted that all changes had been made to the website.
Old Business:
The PAHU convention was discussed. Everyone agreed that Year One was a success.
New Business:
The decision was made to not have a Christmas party in 2003. Instead, there will be a social event immediately following the healthcare forum in February.
