Board Meeting 7/9/02

Meeting was called to order at 4:10 pm 

There was a motion to approve our minutes from 6/11/02

Treasurer’s Report: Kris was on vacation, so no report. We have an estimated balance of $x,xxx.
(AI) Doug will get report from Chris and forward via e-mail.

President’s Report: Doug reported that we have projected annual revenue of $7,000, thus giving us a preliminary budget of $7,000 for this fiscal year. This would leave us with a checking account balance of about $3,000. Preliminary Budget: $2,000 Capitol Conference, $250 State Capitol Day, $2,000 millennium fund, $250 Misc. Operating expenses, $216 web site, and $1,500 allocated for national convention.

Doug announced his goals for his presidency. 

· Conduct efficient, well attended chapter board meetings
· Increase membership from 80 to 100 members.
· Increase our local lobbying effort.
· Hold formal officer elections in 2003.
· Explore cooperative efforts with P.A.G.E.
· Increase our chapter’s public exposure.

(AI) Contact marketing firm used by Philly chapter to help increase carrier support and membership.
(AI) Send board members a list of all board meetings during Doug’s term as President.
(AI) Purchase copy of “Rules of Order” for review at next board meeting.
(AI) Contact all board members prior to next meeting to obtain committee reports. Circulate to board members prior to next meeting. 

Communications Report: Benefits Beat to be published around the end of July. Doug continues to look for new editor for Benefits Beat. 
(AI) Need one page Bio from all the officers by July 12th for inclusion in Benefits Beat.

Membership Report: 81 members current members. 2 new, 3 terminated. All three terminated members could not be saved.
(AI) Establish more focused membership effort. Carrier Reps recruit brokers. Brokers recruit carrier reps.

Legislative Report: August 16th is the date for the Melissa Hart fundraiser. PAIFA / Big I/ PGH-AHU are hosting. Breakfast at 7:30a.m. Site to be determined.
Doug reported that he delivered a $500 HUPAC check to Congressman Mike Doyle on July 8th.
(AI) Doug will check to see if Seubert & Associates will sponsor the breakfast. 

Programs/Education: On September 12th Vince Phillips will do a CE class for 2 credit hours on E&O and Ethics. $20 cost. Held at the Sheraton in Warrendale. Announcement in Benefits Beat.
(AI) Dave Scott will do e-mail reminders.
(AI) Ken will approach the carriers regarding the idea of a carrier symposium.

Technology: Mark offered to continue to update the PGH-AHU web site. 
(AI) Doug is to forward all information on a timely manner to Mark for web-site updating.

Awards: No report


Old Business: Doug received a quote for D&O costing $1,347 a year: $1,000 deductible and a one million limit. 
(AI) Doug will check with other chapters to see what they are paying. Will discuss again at August meeting. 

New Business: Ed brought up the idea of using association funds to pay for membership recruitment lunches. Will vote on at next meeting.
