PGH-AHU Hosts Continuing Education (CE) Seminar On Tuesday September 16, 2003 the PGH-AHU hosted a Continuing Education (CE) seminar at the new Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry Township. A total of five CE hours were provided for the two sessions. In between sessions we had a lunch buffet sponsored by HealthAmerica. The morning session was conducted by Ouida Peterson of CompLink Inc, a Dallas based third-party administrator of COBRA and Section 125 plan services. Ouida is nationally recognized as one the foremost authorities on both COBRA and HIPAA compliance for independent insurance agents. Ouida, who has an extensive public speaking background, is also one of those rare individuals who can keep a three-hour discussion on these topics interesting and stimulating. The feedback we received on her presentation was outstanding. Our afternoon session was provided by Steve Jackson of Total Administrative Services Corporation (TASC), a Wisconsin based TPA. Steve discussed Section 105 plans in two parts. First, Steve reviewed how Section 105 can be used to provide tax-deductible insurance coverage to a sole proprietor who employees their spouse in the business. Second, Steve discussed how Section 105 gives employers the ability to be more creative with the funding of their group health insurance plans. Specifically Steve discussed Health Reimbursement Accounts (HRA’s) and the unique way that his firm can administer them. If you would like more information about Ouida or Steve’s products and services visit their respective web sites at www.complink.biz and www.tasc.com.
