On Wednesday February 15th the Pennsylvania Chapter of
the National Association of Health Underwriters will host the annual
“State Day on the Hill” in Harrisburg. This event offers our members the
opportunity to meet with State Representatives and State Senators to
discuss legislative issues affecting our industry. Last year we had 11
PGH-AHU members attend, our largest group ever. We have room for just as
many, if not more, members this year.
The State Day on the Hill really is a great opportunity for you to get
involved and make a difference. State legislators are usually open minded
and easy to talk to. Most value our opinion and expertise and want to
learn more about the issues. If we are not educating them then who is? You
don’t have to have any lobbying experience to be effective. We will brief
you on the issues and let your personality take it from there. We go on
appointments in small teams so no one has to meet with a legislator alone.
This really is a fun time!
Our group will leave Pittsburgh around mid-afternoon on Tuesday February
14th. We will go out to dinner in Harrisburg and spend the night in a
hotel in downtown Harrisburg. We will go to the Capitol around 8 a.m. for
a briefing. We will schedule lobbying appointments from 9 a.m. until 3
p.m. We should return to Pittsburgh between 7 & 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The PGH-AHU covers the cost of dinner, hotel rooms, gas and tolls (if
applicable) for all members who attend.
If you are interested in attending please let me know by Friday January
20th. You may notify me by either e-mail or phone. I will need you to
provide me with the name of your State Representative and State Senator.
If you do not know who your legislators are then please provide me with
your home address and I will find out for you. If you have any other
questions about the event please let me know. Thank you.
